So, The Girl Child is in another show! This time, she is playing a smaller, but oh-so-juicy roll and a real departure for her! She’s playing The Nasty and Interesting Man in Sarah Ruhl’s “Eurydice!” I was asked to shoot the final dress rehearsal and it was a fun and challenging shoot! Be sure to scroll this whole post for lots of pictures!
This play is a Mehlville Theatre Arts Department Workshop production, which means students are in charge of it from beginning to end. They work with the lighting, compose the score, master the engineering to make it rain on stage, build the sets, design the costumes and makeup, market the play, sell the tickets – if you see it or hear it, it’s the work of the students!
The colored lighting made for a challenging shoot, let me tell you. LOL
Watching The Girl Child playing the earthly incarnation of Hades was a treat, I gotta say!
And the young woman playing The Child of the Underworld was a hoot, too.
Of course, Eurydice is the modern retelling of the Orpheus myth, told from the standpoint of his young wife, Eurydice, who dies on her wedding day and reunites with her father in the Underworld.
I even pulled a few shots out to play with. Made some funky cool portraits. Heh.
(I swear, that second one looks like Death of a Salesman to me. LOL)
If you are in South St. Louis County Thursday, 11/19, Friday, 11/20, or Saturday, 11/21, do yourself a favor and come see Eurydice! Show starts at 7pm!
