So, a friend of ours, this really cool dude named Craig, who’s the drummer and musician for Chuvani Bellydance & Sheherazade Drums, also has another hobby – he races RC cars! I had no experience with them, beyond buying a Fisher-Price one for my boys when they were itty bitty. Anyway, Craig invited us to come to one of his races and check it out. So, we did a few weekends ago and I was so surprised at how serious a hobby it is!
That is Craig’s car. These guys are meticulous! Everyone has a miniature version of a mechanic’s garage set up and they are all working in minute detail. I was kinda completely captivated!
Every piece of equipment imaginable is there. Everyone was super-friendly and swapping stuff. And the track itself is a permanent venue, located next to a public bike path and greenway, with a grandstand and everything. I had no idea!
(That’s The Hubs and our friend, Craig, before Craig’s race. The ramp up to the grandstand is next to them.)
I loved the tiny pit stop right there on the left, where the cars pull off for maintenance. LOL
Look how high some of those babies get on their jumps!
Those little suckers are heavier than they look and fast as heck. Smoke even comes out the back!
Families were all out there, cheering on their hobbyist/driver. And some regular fans, too! Like this boy and his dad, watching the races. Very cool.
I would totally go again and watch another race! Great fun, really nice, friendly people, and who doesn’t like tiny little demon cars going about a zillion miles an hour? Right??
Thanks for inviting us, Craig!
(I would love for you to come back to visit, so please SUBSCRIBE using one of the buttons I have up there at the top on the left. And be sure to find me on Facebook for behind the scenes stuff and general goofiness. I’m on Twitter, too, but be warned – I have been known to accidentally tweet-bomb during baseball season!)
