The Monday Morning “Goodwill Hunting” Report!

Hi, cuties!! How was your weekend? You’ll have to excuse me if I’m dragging here a bit today. The Hubster and I were strong-armed into ripping out wall-to-wall carpeting, not to mention about a gazillion staples and carpet tack strips. My darling mum-in-law decided to pull out the carpet in her master bedroom and, being the crafty little Scottish lady she is, she lured us in with crispy bacon, biscuits and honey, sausage, and stewed tomatoes. Before we knew it, we had tools in hand and cramps in our knees.

But, while the guys were moving the heaviest furniture in the world, The Girl Child, along with my sis-in-law and my niece, managed to get some Goodwill Hunting in!

We had a lot of fun and picked up some great stuff for décor, for thrift couture fashion, and for The Girl Child’s job at the Renaissance Faire.

First off, we found three peasants skirts. The gray one of the left was $3.99 is actually corduroy! How about that? A winter boho skirt! The pink one in the middle is for the girl child and was on sale for $1.98!! I love that lace underskirt! She’s going to layer it with another black one and use it for RenFaire. That five-tiered one on the right is for me, too, and is a little fancier than some of my others. It also rang up at $1.98! It will work great for regular wear, RenFaire, and even some Victorian costumery!

Both me and the Girl child picked up a top. The gray one is mine and was $2.98. It’s a great little Boho top and I can even use it under a bodice for a costume. The black one is able to be pulled off the shoulder and is for the Girl Child. It was also $2.98. She’s not thrilled with it by itself, but it is perfect for underneath her RenFaire corset. Since she works six weekends in a row in some pretty intense heat, she likes having extra tops and skirts to change into.

Girl Child was also thrilled to find these Steve Madden black pumps! They have seen very little wear and will go perfectly with her little black dress, not to mention lots of her other outfits. They rang in at $6.99. For Steve Madden!!! Can we say OH EM GEE?!?!

These may have been the find of the day! Girl Child is working on her next Cosplay costume – a female version of Link, a character from the Legend of Zelda video game series. When we set out on our hunting party, she was hoping to find the “perfect” boots for Link. Now, that is something I really did NOT expect to find. I was wrong. We found these and they are indeed PERFECT, plus they are cute enough to wear with everyday outfits! These brown suede boots were our priciest item of the day, ringing in at $12.99. Girl Child’s smile? Priceless.

At my favorite little hidden-away consignment shop, I found two awesome pairs of earrings and a gorgeous necklace! The shopkeeper sold me the earrings 2 for $5 and another $5 for the necklace. $10 to score some gypsy-friendly jewelry? Yes, please!

The Hubster once again eschewed his Kindle for more Dead Tree Books at .70 cents a piece. He also mollified the Girl Child with a copy of The Great Gatsby. Girl Child has been wanting to read “Gatsby” before high school starts in the fall, but Hubster had loaned it out and failed to get it back. Problem solved. And Hubster is now banned from loaning books out anymore. LOL

I found this awesome little hanging candleholder for $4.99! I’m going to hang it from the center of the canopy on our deck and put a few short pillar candles in it to light in the evenings. I have been on the hunt for something to hang there, but haven’t found anything worth the money – even new in stores. This is funky, different, and definitely priced right!

Last, but not least, is this awesome vintage-look clock in an oil-rubbed bronze finish. This was $8.99 and is actually double-sided, with a clock on both sides. However, the crystal is missing on the opposite side, so I’m thinking I might just remove that clock face and replace it with an insert painted in a finish to match.

So, all in all, a pretty productive Sunday, right? Some great finds, a fun day spent with our extended family, and a bedroom emptied of its carpeting! There were a couple little projects I wanted to get done at home, but those I can knock out pretty quickly during the week, especially if the weather holds out.

So, what was the highlight of your weekend, peeps? Did you chill out and relax? Tackle a major project? Watch a good movie? Inquiring minds want to know! Smile
