The Monday Morning “Goodwill Hunting” Report

Happy Monday, peeps!! How was your weekend? Weather-wise, we ran the gambit from an ice-covered driveway Sunday morning to expectations of 70 degree weather today! It’s just bizarre, isn’t it?

I had an unexpectedly awesome thrifting weekend, though! The gods of Thrifty Architecturalness were definitely in my corner when I headed out Saturday. I posted this sneak-peek on my FACEBOOK page Saturday:

So, now I get to show you what all I found! Including one of the rare flat-out disagreement pieces between The Hubster and I. I can’t wait to see if you agree with me or him. (Hint: I’m right.) LOL

The first Goodwill on my regular route had nothing for me and I was certain it was going to be “one of those days.” Then, The Hubster didn’t feel like going to Red Racks, but wanted to get lunch instead. So, by then, I was really thinking, “Hmmmm…I’m gonna have to come up with something else for Monday’s post!”

But, when we walked into the second Goodwill, someone had decided to dump all their architectural décor pieces and there they were, just waiting for little ol’ me!

First off, I found this awesome shelf! I love the color, the detail, everything. This baby is mine! It’s going on my side of the BEDROOM and I already have the perfect piece to go with it – an almost matching plaque I got for Christmas from my friend, Paula! And it’s going to look gorgeous against the VINTAGE BUFF PAINT. Check out this detail!

I don’t think I’m going to do a thing to it. I love it just the way it is! And it only cost me $3!

The next thing I found was this plaster décor piece. I don’t know what it came from originally, but it has hangers on the back. I’m putting over the MASTER BEDROOM CLOSET, between the two architectural CURTAIN ROD BRACKETS. This one rang up pricier, for whatever reason, at $7. Still, I love it, so I bought it. Smile

Then I found this awesome ledge/shelf/thingy. It’s white, so I think I’m going to age it a little, maybe with a darker wax or something like that. I’m not going to strip it, because I love the detail. I just want to bring that white down a smidge. She rang at $3, too!

OK, THESE are the pieces that The Hubster and I flat-out disagree on! (As you can see, I won. I deposited a nice, hefty freelance check in the bank, so nyah, Hubster! LOL) He hates these. He thinks they are gaudier than heck. I love them. I think they are over-the-top, attention-grabbing, statement pieces. The entire set was available and they were originally from the JCPenney Home Store. I snagged them for $3 a piece. I was going to repaint them in the Oil Rubbed Bronze, but when I put them out on the table to see how they’d look, I actually kind of like them like they are!

OK, peeps, so give it to me straight – Yay or Nay? I can take it! LOL

Before I leave any Goodwill, I always check if there are any peasant skirts to add to my hoard collection and I found this little cutie! Love the vintage blue, the ruffle at the hem, and the embroidered flowers scattered asymmetrically! And, again, the price was right at $3. Cha-ching!

The rest of the amazing finds were pretty much for the Girl Child. I keep forgetting this awesome little thrift/consignment shop that is literally hidden in an inside corner of a tiny strip mall. I mean, seriously, if you don’t know it’s there, you will never spot it. The Hubster reminded of it, so we headed over to see what they had.

We found this awesome vintage fan that has clearly seen better days, but still wears its age with grace. The Girl Child loves all things vintage and Victorian, so I couldn’t pass this up. Love the detail!

Isn’t that sweet? I got to talking with the shopkeeper and we exchanged business cards. She let me have this for $1.

While we were talking, I spied this little blue costume-jewelry ring in my favorite color (turquoise blue) under the glass counter and she let me have it for $1, too. I think she was desperate to make sales. LOL

This, though, was the find of the day!

Girl Child has wanted a candlestick phone forever. I mean, we don’t even have a land line anymore! But, she has been on the hunt for one of these to put in her room “just for decoration.” They are, she says, very “steampunk.” LOL

We saw this reproduction and it was marked at $42. I kept walking. I’m not paying $42 for a reproduction, push-button candlestick phone, no matter how much Girl Child wants one. The Hubster, however, was not deterred. He took it up to the counter and negotiated it down to $10!!! TEN freaking DOLLARS?! I think the shopkeeper thought the owner had overpriced it, too, because she laughed when she looked at the price tag. Girl Child just about had a heart-attack when we brought it home. LOL

So, pretty good weekend haul, huh? I rocked my thrifty-chic fashion this weekend with that awesome BLACK PEASANT SKIRT I picked up a couple weeks ago. I paired it with my favorite hat, my old Mickey Mouse t-shirt, my oversized slouchy zipper hoodie, and my black hi-top Chuck’s. My sister-in-law said I was channeling Mary Poppins. LOL

(I really need to get that mirror painted. I remember that every time I take one of these pictures, then forget again when I get sidetracked by another project. LOL)

OK, peeps, so tell me 1) is it Thumbs up or Thumbs down on my candelabra set and 2) do you agree that I was channeling Mary Poppins?? Winking smile

  1. Cranberry Morning says:

Nah, no Mary Poppins. You'll have to get the black umbrella to convince me of that one.

Like the candlesticks, regardless of you-know-who's opinion. I'd paint them or something though.

MOST OF ALL, love that phone. There is something so appealing about steampunk. I just asked my husband to keep his eyes peeled (and I do not mean that literally) for some vintage outdoor faucets. Crazy, huh!
