Painting The Bedroom & Amazon Paint Review

Hi, there!! I’m so glad you could stop by on this first Monday in December! What did y’all do this weekend? Me? Well, my mum-in-law kicked off the holiday season as she does every year – with a Christmas Kickoff Party! She always has a theme. Last year, it was a pajama party and we all showed up in our comfiest jammies. This year, she decided it was a Wear-A-Hat party. You had to come in a hat – one you made, bought, Christmas, not Christmas – anything you wanted. I won “Cutest Hat Wearer” and got a bottle of wine, which is always appreciated, if you know me. Winking smile I do love my wine! This was my award-winning hat:

I also got a kick in the pants for my procrastination, because Christmas is now right around the corner and I haven’t finished the Master Bedroom Makeover yet. We’re going to be having people over for the holidays and my bedroom is going to be a wasteland of blah if I don’t get my butt in gear. So, The Hubster was generous enough to jump said butt and get me motivated on a weirdly balmy weekend!

So, here was our starting point. I’m sure you remember the boring, er, lovely Dove Gray. (Love that the camera on my phone does Panorama shots. That back wall isn’t red, though. It’s the same as the rest of the walls.)

Holes patched, we pulled out the paint we decided to go with – Amazon Paint in Vintage Buff. My local ReStore, a division of Habitat for Humanity, carries a full line of colors. I love what I’ve read about the environmental benefits of going with recycled paint and I was anxious to see if the recommendations I’ve heard stood up to the test!

Our bedroom is small – it’s 14’x9′. Still, I bought two gallons to be on the safe side and, also, because I like to have paint left over for touch-ups, etc. (I do get bored and move things around, resulting in fresh nail holes. LOL)

It seemed very separated, but mixed quickly and blended nice and even. (It had sat for a few weeks.) The paint was nice and thick and I was pleased with the color in the can. It wasn’t too far off the chip on the can itself.

To make sure that there are no subtle difference in the shades, we always pour all the paint into one, big, five-gallon bucket and thoroughly mix again. This is a really important step if you need more than one gallon for a room. I’ve had different gallons look different on the walls before. Once. Never again. I mix it all before it goes on the wall now.

I have to say, rolling the paint on the wall was great – it was thick, gave great initial coverage, dried quickly, and the color chip was spot-on accurate! I was pleased, pleased, pleased!

Now, I’m a No-Tape painter. The Hubster does the rolling, I do the cut-in and trim. Tape is a giant pain to me and causes me more problems than it solves. I can freehand paint, which is both good and bad. It’s good, because I am good at it and it’s neat when I’m done. It’s bad, because I’m a perfectionist and, no matter what, I’ll see a line I could have done better. But, tape just screws me up. So, I mastered freehand. If you want to try tapeless painting, you will need a good-quality 2″ angled brush, a really steady hand, and patience. I also like to work out of those Folger’s plastic coffee cans that have the built-in side grip! LOL Get a good amount of paint on your brush, come in at a curve, sweep down in a straight line, and curve back out.

Yes, my small bedroom is kind of a two-day job. Mostly because my hand gets crampy and my toes ache from curling around the ladder rungs. But, this was the result Sunday night!

I’m so pleased with the result!

My opinion of Amazon Paint from Renew Paints, LLC: We didn’t have to do a full second coat – just touch up some places where the roller or brush was dry (like that light strip the corner there). The coverage was great, it filled in little imperfections perfectly, the price is certainly competitive (actually significantly less expensive than some premium paints, but with equally good results), and the color was exactly what I was looking for! I will definitely be buying Amazon Paint in the future!

(FYI – this review is NOT sponsored post. This is strictly my opinion and I wanted to simply share a great product with you!)

So, since I was really tired after a long weekend, I decided to, um, just shut the door and let the paint get good and dry, and sleep on the couch. I’ll tackle the cleanup today. LOL

And be sure to find me on Facebook for behind the scenes stuff and general goofiness. I’m on Twitter, too, but be warned – I have been known to accidentally tweet-bomb during baseball seasonl!)

Looks like great paint – once I bought a two cans of the same color from Sears and when I started to paint I realized that one was definitely a shade lighter than the other. Mixing beforehand is a great tip!

I didn't even know Amazon carried paint! I learn something new every day! BTW, your room color looks beautiful. Post a picture when your room is all put back together. 🙂
