Enabling E-Mail Replies For Google+ and Classic Blogger Profiles

Hi, guys! I wanted to run this post again, because I’ve gotten many absolutely wonderful new followers and commenters. Since I am on-the-go a lot, I only respond to comments via e-mail, which I can do from my email app on my phone. There have been several new followers I couldn’t connect back with, because they were a No-Reply commenter! I read every single comment I receive and, like most bloggers I know, want to be able to converse with my readers when they are generous enough to take the time to comment!

Don’t feel dumb! I originally stumbled across the “answer” to this problem when I was commenting on a post from my bloggy friend, Karen, at Sew Many Ways! (See our collaborative post HERE.) I had upgraded to use my Google+ profile with my Blogger account and I had no idea that I was a NO REPLY commenter! It’s very easy to miss and many of you may not even realize that your e-mail is hidden. Fortunately, though, this isn’t a tough fix!
So, let’s take a quick look at fixes for both Google+ and Classic Blogger profile users.

Google+ Profile Users:

First off, in Blogger, click on your smiling face up in the right hand corner. In the drop-down box, you see a button to View your Profile. Click it!

That’s going to take you to your Google+ Profile page. Click on that blue button that says Edit Profile.

When you do, you are going to see that option there to Change your Contact Settings. Let’s click on that.

The next thing you’ll see are options as to who can contact you. Click the box next to “Allow People To Email You From A Link On Your Profile” and set the privacy to Public.

Once you have changed those settings, go back and click on Done Editing! That will save your new preferences and you’re finished!

Classic Blogger Profile Users:

If you are using the classic Blogger Profile, you should still change your settings to allow bloggers to respond to your comments! It’s quick and easy, as well!

First, click on your icon up in the right hand corner:

Click on Blogger Profile:

Then, click on Edit Profile in the upper right hand corner.

Click the checkbox next to “Show My Email Address.”

Now scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click Save Profile. You’re done!

One More Thing:

If things still aren’t working for you, Nancy at Artsy Chicks Rule wrote to give me this one last tip: Click on the little gear icon below your smiling face in Blogger (upper right corner). Select “Revert to Blogger Profile,” which will take you back to your old profile. (Don’t worry, you can go back to the Google+ when you’re done.) Follow the directions above for the Classic Blogger Profile, Save, then upgrade again to the Google+ profile. That little workaround worked for her, when she couldn’t get the Google+ fix to stick! Thanks, Nancy!

Enabling email responses hasn’t increased spam in my inbox at all and now I can connect with bloggers I follow and those readers who follow me! It’s worth the few minutes it takes to fix those settings, because, let’s face – blogging is all about community! And I want YOU in my community, because what you have to say is important to me! Open-mouthed smile

(I would love for you to come back to visit, so please SUBSCRIBE using one of the buttons I have up there at the top on the right. And be sure to find me on Facebook for behind the scenes stuff and general goofiness. I’m on Twitter, too, but be warned – I have been known to accidentally tweet-bomb during baseball seasonl!)

  2. Holly Lefevre (504 Main) says:

Wholly Moley! I do not understand why google+ cannot keep it straight. I have switched a few times…I am currently using a blogger profile…but I think I will try again. This is a GREAT tutorial – I pinned it!

Kristy- Great post and thank you for linking it up to At Home Take 2's Weekend Blog Share Project. If you're interested and have anything similar, I'd love to have you as a contributor on my Blogging Tutorial series. You put this one together really well.

  4. Leslie Stewart says:

Ok Kristy…I'm trying this, but I don't think it will work because I'm on wordpress. I think that anyone on wordpress is always a "no-reply" blogger to a Blogger blog.
I'm giving you my email in this comment, so you can let me know if I'm still a "no-reply" blogger after I did what you instructed.
    Let me know…
    Thanks,
    Leslie

A loong time ago someone left a comment about being a no reply commenter and I was like, wha?? Now I totally get it. THANK YOU – you're genius and those screen shots were uber helpful.

I'm going to check out your blog some more, but if you'd like to join us for the Photo Friday Blog hop tomorrow, though I see you have lots of partying to do already, we'd love to have you!

Thank you so much for this! I kept seeing the blogger profile tutorial and could not find any of those settings on mine! Now I know why, I'm linked to Google+.
I am now checked off and ready for replies! 😉

Hey, just to let ya know…I don't think this worked for me (on Google+). My replies to my posts were still saying "no reply blogger" so I found another fix which requires reverting back to old blogger profile, checking the email box and then reverting yet again back to Google +. This seems to have fixed it. I think. 😉

  8. Cranberry Morning says:

Great post! No-reply blogger is always so discouraging, when someone leaves a comment and it just drops like a lead weight into a black hole because there's no way to respond to it.

(Not sure about lead weights and black holes, btw, just a figure of speech.) 🙂

And I can't tell: Do you live in Scotland or did you and your Scot move somewhere else? If you're in the UK or Canada or the U.S., be sure to enter my Valentine's homemade soap sachet GIVEAWAY – on now through Friday. Original post was yesterday, the 15th.

  10. Angelia Lanouette says:

Hello Kristy, thank you for the info on no-reply comments. I do not have a blog but I did set up a Google+ account so that I can leave comments without putting my email in the comment. I followed your instructions but not sure if I did everything correct. Could you please let me know if I am a no-reply blogger.
I guess I should leave my email just in case…
    anglanouette(at)gmail(dot)com
    Thank you so much! Angelia
