Goodwill Hunting Monday Report

Well, for the first time in awhile, *I* had a good weekend thrifting!! For the last several weeks, all the good finds at the shops had been for my husband, or one of my kids, or even for my mother-in-law! Finally, this weekend, I made some good finds for ME!

This is why I start off with my trusty thrift stores before I hit up the Halloween Heavens that I could spend a paycheck (or more) in, if left to my own devices. I found this great carvable pumpkin for $1 with one little crack in it! Not a problem, since I’ll just carve that spot! Found a ring of old keys (awesome for my terrifying scary lady figure that stands just inside my front door) and unused vampire teeth that someone had stolen the adhesive out of, also $1 each! Since I have plenty of experience and adhesive for vampire teeth (and that they run $20 new in the stores), that was a major SCORE!

My daughter (a consummate thrifter/junk store queen) found a “new-to-her” pair of slightly funky Mary Janes and I found the perfect pair of granny boots (ooh, I showed my age there, didn’t I?) for my Halloween Party costume this year! Total for the shoes – $10. My daughter, who creates her own everyday styles, counts this as a bonus for her, since my shoes are for a costume and hers are for “regular wear.” LOL

These were quite a find, actually! Nothing to do with Halloween, but brand new picture frames for $3 each! The red-matted frame has a vintage carnival picture, which I just love and I think is going to find a home in my kitchen. The larger, silver frame is meant to house a 5″x7″ picture, but is actually perfect for a gorgeous piece of art photography done for me by my friend, Jay, a talented artist over at J. Swisher Photography, and will be a part of my master bedroom makeover.

I fell in love with these the second I saw them. They have already found a home on my back deck! They were $3 a piece and fit perfectly onto a spot of blank wall just across from my little garden oasis, giving it a little more art and polish! Love them!

I found these two beauties that I will be using some cool paint techniques on to make the uniquely special. The desk organizer was a $3. The jewelry box was new, but is missing two pulls, and rang in at $8.99, the most expensive single item I bought this weekend! I’m going to post tutorials on my makovers of them, then they will probably end up for sale in my Etsy shop, which sits woefully empty right now. :::sigh:::

Not to be outdone, The Hubster found himself four paperbacks, which rung up at $.70 each. We have a tendency to drown in books here, so I did buy him a Kindle for Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, while he has a ton of books on his Kindle, he can’t resist bringing more books into the house as he finds them. I still have to purge those shelves all the dang time! Drives me crazy! (I don’t really have room to criticize, since I have hundreds of books on my Kindle. But, at least, mine don’t take up shelf space!)

So, on my To-Do for the week is a vanity chair makeover for my daughter’s Steampunk bedroom (gonna be SO cool! I’m really excited about the fabric I found for the cushion) and decorating for my FAVORITE holiday – HALLOWEEN!

And, if you have something on your To-Do List this week, leave me a comment! Your creativity inspires ME!

Hi…thanks for stopping by my blog and for joining the Find a Friend Linking Party!! I also wanted to let you know your blog comments are set to "No Reply", which means there isn't an email address attached to your blog account with no way for anyone to reply. If you ever want to change that, there is a tutorial on my right side bar labeled "Are you a no reply".
Thanks again for commenting on my blog and have a great day,

I loved reading about your goodwill finds. I never have any luck at the Goodwill's in my city. If I find something I usually like I think it is over priced. I guess I need to look harder…LOL. I found your blog thru the Mom's Monday Mingle and I subscribed to your RSS feed.

Thank you SO MUCH for following! I just joined up on yours as well!

I hit three to four Goodwills and Red Racks every weekend. LOL Sometimes I do really good and sometimes, not so much. I find that if you go every week and around the same times (once you figure out when the stock comes out of the back room), you start to really make good finds. When I only went once in awhile, I never seemed to find the good items, either! I just made it part of my weekend routine.

Karen, thank you so so much for giving me the heads up! I'm going to your blog directly to find out how to change that. I don't want that and I *thought* I had corrected it. Thank you again! I appreciate it!
